Project Overview
In 2021, Caerphilly Council came to us with a challenge: to completely transform the fitness facilities at Newbridge Leisure Centre, taking an old and dated local authority leisure centre gym and bringing it into the twenty-first century with more modern equipment and updated training methods.
We delivered a 360 commercial fitness solution for Newbridge, approaching the project in key phases. Phase 1 involved bringing our ideas for the space to life through 2D and 3D designs, followed by the build and refresh of the site, which saw us project managing the contractors to oversee key structural and room reconfigurations.
Full Decoration & Flooring
Phase 2 included a full redecoration of the space, giving it a much darker and trendier look and feel. We swapped the entire ceiling out for darker grey tiles and selected new fixtures and fittings. The flooring saw high-impact commercial grade vinyl in the main gym, 10mm grey fleck rubber roll in smaller studios, and 30mm high-density weights tile in the weights and functional rooms.
New Equipment
Finally, we kitted out the entire gym with all new equipment from the Inspace range, including touchscreen cardio machines, selectorised and plate-loaded strength equipment, free weights, and a bespoke functional training zone with a rig, turf track and accessories. All cardio machines are interactive and hooked up to TVs, allowing members to watch movies, browse social media, or mirror their phones while they work out.
Conclusion
Under very challenging conditions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we worked closely with the Newbridge team to deliver a total upgrade to the leisure centre’s fitness facilities in just over a year. This project is a real flagship site and demonstrates what we are capable of delivering, pulling out all the stops to get it over the line.
